The Evil Within 2 has been officially announced! A trailer showcased at E3 that's a mix of CGI and gameplay showed that Sebastian Castellanos is back as the main character. Bethesda also revealed the release date to be the 13th of October this year. Shinji Mikami is the executive producer on the game, we do not know who is the director yet.

GAME DESCRIPTION:

Details
For Sebastian Castellanos, the nightmare is far from over.

From Tango Gameworks and horror mastermind Shinji Mikami comes The Evil Within 2, the sequel to the widely-praised 2014 survival horror game. In order to save Lily – the daughter he believed he lost years ago – Sebastian will have to step into the madness once again. Announced during the Bethesda E3 2017 Showcase, The Evil Within 2 will launch worldwide on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on Friday the 13th in October 2017.

Set in Union, a crumbling city built using Lily’s mind as the Core, The Evil Within 2 presents a mix of closed off, claustrophobic environments that are reminiscent of the first game, and new, less linear areas that will give you the opportunity to explore at your own pace. You’ll be able to wander freely and poke through all the dark corners of the world at your leisure, but this is still a survival horror game, and ammo and resources will be scarce. You’ll need to prepare carefully and move cautiously as you discover the secrets of Union and unravel Mobius’ plans from within STEM.

Using Sebastian’s new communicator device, you will have intermittent access to the real world, with Sebastian’s former protégé Juli Kidman feeding you information from the other end. The communicator device also acts as your guide to Union, offering up unique resonance points in the world that will lead you to resources, side quests, information about the state of the city, and even Lily as you use the communicator to follow in your daughter’s footsteps through STEM. You’ll have to dust off your detective skills and put them to work as you journey through the warped wreckage of Union and face off against untold evils in your attempt to rescue Lily before it’s too late.

Head First into Hell

Years ago, before the events of The Evil Within, Sebastian’s daughter Lily died in a tragic house fire. His wife left him shortly after and his life continued to deteriorate when he was pulled into the web of a sinister corporation called Mobius. It has now been three years since his investigation into a series of grisly murders brought him to Beacon Mental Hospital, where Sebastian Castellanos found himself trapped in a deranged nightmare world created inside the mind of a killer.

After barely surviving the events of the first game, Sebastian was alone. He lost his job, his will, everything. No one believed his story about Beacon, and he has spent the last three years searching for the people responsible for what happened to him at Beacon Mental Hospital, turning up no leads. But now, for the first time in years, Sebastian has a glimmer of hope. Kidman reenters his life and offers him a chance at redemption: Lily is still alive and is being used by Mobius to create a new STEM world, and if Sebastian is willing to submit himself to hell, there’s a chance he can find her and free her. Sebastian will have to journey into STEM once more and face off against untold evil in order to save his daughter.

“The story we’ve crafted for you is very compelling,” Executive Producer Shinji Mikami says. “Each stage you’ll delve into is very unique. I hope people enjoy the game, and I encourage everyone to thoroughly explore the world.”

Alright.

Initial thoughts:

- Really love the animations! They fixed a big gripe I had from the first game.
- Seems a lot more actiony, defintely in line with Kiri's "Survival Action" claims... That said, it does seem to be horror still
- I dislike how there are fast zombies and fat, bloated zombies... It's such an overused trope... The haunted were pretty great in the first game. But this... I'll wait and see
- Story seems interesting, but where is ruvik?

I still don't know what to say lmao

But shit, I can't wait to see Leslie/Ruvik, and what role Juli Kidman/Joseph play in all of this. I'm honestly surprised that Lily is "still alive", and I loved how the entire trailer was giving this new vibe that made it feel different from EW1. There was less gore and more CG greatness- but it's still fucking awesome.

I am SO glad Laura is returning!

And you know what, let me say this one more time because it's hard to register- the game is releasing in FOUR. MONTHS.

So far the game looks almost the same as the first game, but with improvements and better graphics. Have you seen the screenshots on Steam yet? They look similar to the first game (in game screenshots) but slightly better. Not too impressed yet tbh regarding this part.

I hope it isn't too action-y. Well then again, it's just the first trailer, I think they wanted to save the "horror scares" for the actual game and not the trailer. Tbh, I remember the multiple trailers of the 1st game sorta spoiled it for me. Let's hope that they are saving the horror for later. But yeah judging from the trailer, it does seem very action.... I hope it's just for the "trailer hype"

They seemed to introduce some new enemies though. Some guy with a huge flame thrower, doesn't seem too intimidating, just looks like a tough opponent we may have to deal with, but doesn't look like he would be haunting us in our nightmares or scaring us.

Maybe they're saving Ruvik for later as well. There's no way they'd take Ruvik out of this game unless they already have plans for a 3rd one.

My thoughts for now.

It's actually really exciting. I'm glad they haven't said anything about TEW2 for the last 3 years. It gave us more to wonder about, and more time for developers to work on the game without much pressure. The first game, we had like 10 trailers or some shit that lead up to the game's release, and it was at least a good long 2-3 years before the game actually released. This created lots of pressure and rushed the game, hence all the "problems" the game had on release date. However for this sequel, we were only notified of the game's released 4 months before!! There's more for us to chew on for this game rather than the developers this time.

Added screenshots.

I also got super high-res screenshots off of Bethesda's Press site. But I'm gonna need to compress them because the size is ridiculous for my connection
