I think the better question is: will it matter?

Are the first comics canon? It doesn't really matter. Nothing in the comics affects anything that actually happened in the game. You can take them or leave them, and it doesn't really hurt anything.

We'll have to see what's actually in the new comics and if they contradict anything in either game.

which doesn't bode well as that didn't happen.

???? Yes it very did.

Seems like it will matter this time around considering it stars Sebastian and fills in the gap between the two games...

All the stuff that happens in the game is presented in-order, isn't it? Maybe he means Ruvik's backstory, which is presented out of order.
I'm probably being far too pissy about his turn of phrase tho.

The first comic starred Ruvik and was pitched as a direct prequel, but the actual contents of the story didn't mean jack in context with the game. It could very well be the case that these comics come out and they're just a weird side story with Sebastian that doesn't ultimately do anything to bridge the first two games. Right now, the story seems to be: Sebastian finds leads on some weird serial killer -> faces STEM-like bullshit -> wtf this is weird -> lol that's right I'm still halfway inside STEM, there isn't actually a new serial killer, herp derp derp. Not exactly a fount of new information, and not something that ultimately matters as to whether or not it's canon.

Not from a linear narrative perspective like the writer's talking about. From a linear narrative perspective, the opening of the game makes no fucking sense.

Sebastian responds to a call -> winds up in the Sadist's lair via use of impossible space -> gets his leg sliced open -> shows up back at the hospital via impossible space again with no leg injury and not even a cut in his pants -> flees Krimson City -> wakes up in a different hospital -> wakes up back in the ambulance where he started

Sebastian bounces around a lot at the very start of the game in a way meant to disorient the player and make them uncomfortable with the concepts of time and space. That's not how linear storytelling works. Even if the events technically happen in order, there's no logical progression from one scene to the next, and each scene is a fragmented piece of the larger tapestry that is the narrative. They all fit somewhere else thematically and narratively. Following Sebastian's journey is a linear path, but the story that unfolds around him is told in a very experimental way.

Read through issue one. Already ready to write it off as non-canon due to the fact that Sebastian is apparently still working at the KCPD and has been for THREE MONTHS (!!!) and the fact that the whole flashback with Myra talking about how Lily was kidnapped just completely shits on Sebastian's whole backstory. I get that he's an unreliable narrator, but that's fuckin ridiculous, fam.

The art is absolutely atrocious.
