Bethesda has released a patch for The Evil Within that allows users to remove the black bars and run the game at 60 FPS. They also released a demo which contains the first 3 chapters of the game. If you're unsure how the game will run on your rig, you might want to download that.

Thanks for posting this. It's a good sign that the team cares enough to release a good patch for PC players. Some devs would have just left the game as is. Only problem now is console players wanting the same thing, and I'm not sure they can deliver.

The main reason for the bars was something to do with performance. Its the one game that makes my pc warm, even with the fan on, but runs like a dream though, but this is a heavy duty rig, Consoles would find it taxing to run it well without over heating, so. I am not expecting a console patch soon, :/

I'm pretty sure they're there to make the game more cinematic. Another benefit is that it makes the game feel a lot more claustrophobic, imo

And I guess I'm lucky. My PC doesn't even get warm while running this game
